Although generally known as Botox, Botox is actually the commercial name of botulinum toxin. Botulinum toxin is known among the public as snake venom, but this is incorrect information. Botox is a toxin obtained from a bacterium called Clostridium Botulinum. This toxin acts at the nerve-muscle junction and prevents muscle contraction, thus it is effective in wrinkle treatment and has been safely used worldwide for many years.
If you have a habit of using your facial expressions excessively, over time the muscles will contract and wrinkles will form on the skin. These wrinkles can be dynamic or static. Dynamic wrinkles that appear with movement can be treated with botox. Static wrinkles that are visible even at rest also require filler applications.
The botox procedure, which takes quite a short time, is frequently used for forehead, eye area (crow’s feet), frown lines, nose wrinkles (bunny lines), neck bands, around the lips and chin wrinkles, as well as for teeth grinding treatment, jaw slimming, eyebrow lifting, migraine and sweating prevention. It removes the old and tired expression on the face and gives you a fresher and more vigorous appearance.
It is approximately a 10-minute procedure and you may only feel a slight burning sensation in that area during the procedure. Anesthetic creams can be used for this and you can return to your normal life immediately afterwards. Botox effect starts on the 3rd day and reaches its maximum on the 7-10th days. I recommend to my patients not to lean forward for the first 4 hours, not to rub the treated area, to restrict activities such as sauna, Turkish bath, pool, hairdresser and to pay attention to their sleeping position on the first night.
Botox application has been used worldwide for many years and is a very reliable application when performed by experienced physicians specialized in the field.
- Sweating Botox: Especially for underarm sweating, botox applied at certain points partially reduces the function of sweat glands, thereby reducing sweating. It is a quite satisfactory treatment method that is effective for approximately 6 months in patients with excessive sweating.
- Baby Botox: It is a treatment method where we target small wrinkles on the skin by applying very small doses of botox to certain points at a certain depth throughout the face.
- Mesobotox: It is a treatment method that treats fine wrinkles on the skin by mixing very small doses of botox with mesotherapy products such as youth vaccine, Hyaluronic acid, Salmon DNA and applying them to certain depths and certain points throughout the face, while also stimulating skin renewal, moisturizing the skin, and helping us achieve a more vibrant and fresher skin.
- Actor’s Botox: Instead of the high-dose botox application that was popular in the past and caused loss of all facial expressions, it is an application method that we call actor’s botox because we apply it in smaller doses to only reduce wrinkles without completely losing facial expressions.
- Migraine Botox: It has been shown that botox applied to trigger points in migraine patients reduces the frequency and severity of attacks in suitable patients. It is usually applied in small doses to 31 trigger points in the head and neck region and we can return to our normal life immediately afterwards.
